If you had to choose between the 15-45x60 ELITE or the

NIKON SPOTTER XLII which would you choose and why?

Hi

Your choice should be a matter of your application. The Elite is desinged with portability in mind and, in that respect, is about as portable as it gets in a spotting scope. However, it will not offer quite the performance and definitely not the versatility of the Prostaff (optional eyepieces).

Hi:

Thanks for the reply. I was referring, however, to the Nikon 16-48x60 Spotter XL II Spotting Scope, not the prostaff. Does this make a difference? The small nikon seems fairly portable. How is the performance compared to the elite.

Hi

If you are talking the Spotter XL, you are really talking the same beast as the Elite. Same design - roof prism - and same basic performance. I would rate them as very close.
