Konus flop

I recently purchased a Konus Handy-18 Spotting Scope 18x with Tripod 7130 for backyard birding.
This scope has a foldable handle and I am having a problem with it staying in the correct position. I have it mounted on a tripod and when I put my eye to the lens the the scope folds so that I have to hold onto the body of the scope to keep it from folding.
Any ideas?

Hi

Hate to say it, but that's about par for a scope at that price ($35) and quality. You could try some "do it yourself" home repair, but it's probably going to be cheaper and less hassle just to return it for another or try something else.

Thanks anyway. I di try using a strap from an old camera and it seems to be working.
