Gen I all alike?

Just got a Night Owl NODS3 and disapointed with the resolution. Are all Gen I scopes like this with sharpness only in the 1/4 middle of the screen? Is the Explorer series better then this "Discover" series??

In general, yes, most Gen1 units will be roughly similar in performance, simply because Gen 1 intensifier tubes are all sourced from the same place, namely Russia. On the other hand, there is often a wide range of quality control and little or no standardization at this level of night vision technology. The NIght Owl has been pretty consistent for us, however. If you bought it from us and would like to exchange it for another unit, we will be glad to work with you. Please contact our customer service department.
