Ok, I recently bought a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 30-06. The gun will be used for whitetail hunting. I think i'll use the rings that came with it. Does anyone know of these rings failing? For a scope I was thinking a silver 3-9x40 around the 200 dollar mark. I don't want a cheap scope by any means. I do however, want a scope that will hold its zero, and can take a beating. I don't need the best of anything, just something that will get the job done. I wan't a good LIFETIME warranty. I will sometimes hunt in the rain and an extra 15 minutes in the morning and at night would be awesome. So, here are a list of the scopes I was thinking about: Burris Fullfield 2, Bushnell elite 3200, Sightron s2, and maybe a lower end Leupold or Nikon. The Bushnell comes with the rainguard, but eye relief doesn't seem like much. I've heard good things about the sightrons clearity, and the Burris seems like a good all-around scope. I dont know much about the lower end Leupolds or Nikons. Im kind of leaning towards the Bushnell, simply because I haven't heard a single negative response, and I like the rainguard. Some have said the Sightron seems cheap. I haven't heard much about the Burris, but many have recommended it.

Thanks for any information,
-Jon

Hi

I still prefer a good 3-9x40 unless you have a very specific reason for going with a larger objective or magnification range. For general deer hunting, there isn't much a good 3-9x40 can't do.

On the Burris and Leupold as well as the Nikon, it will depend greatly on which series we are talking about. To get an equivalent Leupold to the Elite 3200 will mean a VX-II as a minimum, http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vari-x-ii-3-9x40mm-rifle-scope.html and in a Burris, at least a Fullfield II, http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-3-9x40mm-fullfield-ii-rifle-scope.html Nikon will have the Buckmasters, http://www.opticsplanet.net/nikon-riflescope-buckmasters-3-9x40.html at the same pricepoint, but I'd rather recommend the Monarch, http://www.opticsplanet.net/nikon-riflescope-monarch-ucc-3-9x40.html in this group.

The advantage of the Leupolds and also the Buriis is the greater variety of reticles offered and I also like Leupold's customer service. All in all, though, I think it's hard to beat the Elite 3200 as solid scope at a good price.

In the $200 price range, I really think that the FFII is pretty hard to beat. Sighttron has some diehard followers and they appear to be nice scopes. I have never actually shot with one and availability is somewhat limited in my area. The Bushnell 3200 is also a good scope. I give the nod to burris because it is fully-multi-coated and a very rugged scope. If you can raise your price a little, take a look at the Weaver Grand Slam and the Nikon Monarch. I agree with Joni that something around a 3-9x40 is pretty much ideal. You may have some problems finding a silver scope that matches your rifle.
