Looking to replace my 30 year old hunting binos with an upgrade.

So far, my two potential finalists are the 8x42 Leupold Pinnacle or the 8x42 Vortex Viper.

Is there an advantage with the Viper`s argon gas vs the nitrogen gas. Is the Pinnacle argon or nitrogen?

What is your assessment between these two in color resolution, clarity, low lite performance, viewing comfort, etc?

Is there a diffference with the Viper, justifying the extra dollars?

I do prefer the looks of the black Pinnacle vs the green Viper but will choose the Viper if the difference is warranted.

Welcome your specific thoughts on these two!.............Thanks

Nitrogen and argon are just gases that they fill the binoculars with. The main purpose is to keep water vapor out and seal the binoculars. I am not aware of any optical qualities of the gases that would improve the view.

Best to compare the two based on optics, forget the gases. The glass is the main thing.

Hi

Both fine binoculars and, as ET says, forget the gas - not a factor. I'd give a slight edge to the Vortex for optics, but I like the mechanical construction on the Pinnacles. Well made bino.
