Hi Joanie................Ok! One more comparison here between these two above. And if you would, please throw the Pinnacle into the mix too as a 3 way comparison for resolution, edge to edge clarity, durability etc etc., and anything else you can think of..............I ran across this particular Minox after my last post!!........What do ya think?.........

Hi

All else equal, a 42mm will be brighter and sharper than a 32mm. If portability is an issue, then you need to think about a 32mm. You will lose some performance, but the difference is not huge, as long as you are talking a good 32mm. Of those two 32s, I like the Katmai.

To be honest, though, the 8x42 Pinnacles is such a trim, well-designed binocular, you will never have an issue with portability and it is a better performer than either the Katmai or the Minox BL. Definitely my first choice on these.

Go for The Pinnacle. After you use it for 4 years, move onto some alpha binocular.

To confuse you more, there is a Pentax here at a good price

Hi

Yes, the Pentax is also a great choice. One of the reasons I like the Pinnacles, though, is that it one of the very few binos at this price still made in Japan. Not that that is a big deal, just a personal preference.

I have the next higher Pentax, SP series, just so I can say I have one pair made in Japan. Wink I had the Hungarian Conquest 10x40 but gave it up.

Other than that I have an assortment of fine optics made in China, mostly Nikon.

It is a struggle to get the best value at the 300 dollar mark. I no longer would buy the Monarchs due to the wimpy eye cups. But it has warranty, I tell myself.
