In my state it is legal to hunt deer 1 hour before & after sunrise/sunset. Can a red dot laser aimed at a target (deer) be seen through night vision goggles for hunting within 100 yards? If this is possible, I think I would get the most bang for my buck (pun intended) since a NV rifle scope would be beneficial only for those 2 hours while the sun is down. If this is not possible, what is my best alternative for hunting day and night under $500-ish?

Hi

That could pose a problem since most NV units have an automatic shutt off when exposed to a bright light. Not sure if a laser would be enough to activate this, but for the short time you would be using the setup, I don't think it would be worth it, anyway.

Personally, I would invest my money in a conventional riflescope of good quality with a large objective and an illuminated reticle. If the optics are good, such a scope will show a surprising amount of detail and it would, of course, be an excellent chocie for daytime work.

Like earlcrow1, I was also wondering if night vision goggles would be compatible with a red dot sight (not a laser beam) pointed at a target deer. The problem is that the red dot must be dim enough to not overload the NV scope or goggle while at the same time, the NV unit must have enough sensitivity to be able to see the deer. The 3 red dots in the sight that came with my Ten Point QX-4 Elite cross bow can be adjusted to 10 different intensity levels, but I don't know if the lowest would be low enough.
The response from Optics Planet about using a conventional riflescope was not useful since it is not possible to see the deer well enough in the darkness. This customer (me) has decided that he WANTS to spend his money on an NV unit if it will work with the red dot sight!
