I have an old 30-30 Savage bolt action rifle. i'd like to moint a scope for deer hunting. A couple of guys at a national store ried to alk me out of it due to the side taps for the mount. Will his mount be a problem when it comes to accuracy, shell ejection????? Also looking for scope recommendations.

Hi Carlie

If you have one of the old Savage boltguns in a 30-30 that were not drilled and tapped for scope mounts, they are probably correct. I recommend that you visit with a good gunsmith to discuss mount options.

A good 3-9x40 is about as universal as it gets in a riflescope, though you could probably do just fine with a fixed 4x scope, too, on a 30-30.
