1st of all let me say, great web site and lots of good info.
question: i just talked my father-n-law into selling me his winchester
model 100 308 cal.
i would like to get some info from some of the members that have a Dr. optic rifle scope. any pros/cons about the european optic that you all could shed some light on?.
my hunting here in the southeast is generally whitetail deer.

thanks.

Hi

Haven't looked through too many Doctor riflescopes, but what I've seen looked good. Either the 3-9x40, http://www.opticsplanet.net/docter-3-9x40-1-tube-duplex-reticle-riflescope.html or the 30mm tube 2.5-10x48, http://www.opticsplanet.net/docter-25-10x48-30mm-tube-german-4-reticle-rifle-scope.html would be plenty.

Docter makes a good product. The 30mm scopes seem to be of higher quality than the 1" models. That does not mean the 1" models are not good, they are very good. I would rank the 1" tubes above a Leupold VXIII and just below the Zeiss Conquest. The 30mm tube models are made to compete in the euro market and I have been impressed with them. Keep in mind there are two different grades of quality in the 30mm models (both are good, the aspherical models are superior). My only concern with buying a Docter scope would be the fact that the importer has dropped the line. Docter tells me that they have someone lined up and should start importing again very soon. They also said that the old importer (B.C. Outdoors) would handle any warranty issues on the scopes that are already in the U.S. B.C. is not known for their customer service. But, they have had a major restructuring and they are under new management. At any rate, these optics are being liquidated at very low prices and I would not hesitate to purchase one.
