|
|
Hi
I just got a MEADE EXT125 and need some advice on eyepiece selection. The telescope came with a 26mm eyepiece. The plan is to add a 10 or 12mm eyepiece with a 2X Barrlow. What would you recommend? Celestron OMNI or Mead series 5000 ? OR?
Thanks for reading this. |

Hi
The 26mm eyepiece (73x) will cover you for some low power work, though I would be tempted to try a 32mm (59x) with better eye relief such as the Televue 32mm Plossl, http://www.opticsplanet.net/televue-plossl-epl-32-eyepieces.html or the equivalent. The supplied Meade 26mm is a bit short on eye relief.
For a medium power eyepiece aim for something in the 100-125x range such as a 14mm Meade series 5000, http://www.opticsplanet.net/meade-series500-plossl-eyepcs125.html or barlow up one of the above eyepieces.
The 12mm will give you 158x in the 125, the 10mm will give you 190x. The 10mm will make a nice high power eyepiece, though I wouldn't barlow it.
The Omni is a good Plossl, but it's hard to pass up the extra field of view of the Series 5000. _________________ ----------------------

Thanks for the prompt reply Joanie
What is the defference between the "Meade Super Plossl 26 mm LP Multi-Coated" supplied with the scope and the Meade Plossl Eyepieces Series 5000 ?
Thanks in advance |

| The TeleVue Plossl 32.0mm has a field of view of 50 and costs $110. The OMNI is 52° and sells for $50. Both have eye relief of 22mm. What is better about the TeleVue? |

Hi
The word Televue says it all - quality. You can't buy a sharper or brighter Plossl. _________________ ----------------------
