Thanks

If you're going to try to use the same scope on both rifles, a 4-12x40 or 4.5-14x44 or similar size scope with a standard duplex is a good compromise between a varmint and big game scope. I know it's tough to squeeze a good scope into a family budget, but down the road it's still the cheapest way to go. As a minimum, I'd try a Bushnell Elite 3200 in a 4-12x40, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-elite-3200-4-12x40mm-matte-finish-riflescope-multi-x-reticle-and-rainguard-324124a.html

Hi Joe

I'd suggest squeezing a little more for a good scope (be gentle). Going cheaper always results in a loss of optical performance and it also increases the risk of mechanical failure. Any scope, regardless of price, can go bad, but it is much more likely to happen on a cheap scope.

Okay, I'll stop preaching. If you force me into a corner and ask me to pick a varmint scope under $200, I'd at least go with a Korean made scope such as the Swift 6-18x44, http://www.opticsplanet.net/swift-6-18x44-premier-rifle-scope.html

Thanks for posting with us, by the way.

I have the same gun. I love it, and the bushnell trophy 3x9x40mm that straddles its barrel

the bushnell trophy has the best low-light capabilities and its a great scope at an enev better price.
