Hey Joanie, I live approximately 100 yards from a bay & have nice views from my upstairs porch. I`m debating purchasing either the Vixen Geoma Pro-ED 67A or their 82A non-ED model. Would the extra-low dispertion glass be worth the trade-off of the smaller aperture and power considering that with the GLH-48 zoom on both, the 67mm is rated @ 16-48x while the 82mm is 20- 60x? What about the field of view? Weight is not a big issue, as I probably will not be lugging it around much. Lastly, please recommend a reasonably-priced tripod to compliment these scopes. Thanks for your help!

Hi Ford

For your application, the 82mm version probably makes more sense. The extra magnification of the 82mm will probably be more useful to you than the slightly better detail provided by the ED version, especially if portability is not an issue.

Field of view is a function of magnification in this case, since both models use the same eyepiece. As magnification goes up, field of view goes down, though you can always zoom up or down as far as needed to get the field of view you want.

By the way, I'm jealous. I am a long way from a bay.

Joanie, Thanks for the advice regarding which VIXEN scope would best suit my needs. At the risk of being rude, I believe you forgot to address my question regarding a recommendation for reasonably-priced tripods for the two VIXEN scopes I inquired about. Also, what is your opinion on the quality of VIXEN spotting scopes, especially in comparison to other similarly priced scopes. Thanks again for your knowledgeable insight!
