Hi, I'm looking for a rangefinder to help layout an Oyster farm. I need to measure buoys (24"dia) at distances ranging from 60 to about 500 feet. I need 1 ft to 1/2 yd accuracy and waterproof would be a plus. Some of the readings would be taken from a boat, and of course the buoys would be floating so there would be some relative motion. I've looked at the Leupold RXIII which reads out in feet, has a 1 yd accuracy and is waterproof. Also the Nikon Monarch 800, waterprood 1/2 yd accuracy and the Simmons 800 yardage master, 1ft accuracy, but not waterproof. Would I be better off with a golf or hunting model? I appreciate any suggestions you can make. Thanx in advance

Hi

The best LRF for your application would be a Laser Tech Trupulse, http://www.opticsplanet.net/laser-technology-trupulse-200-range-finders.html It will have better range, accuracy and more features than any of those you listed and was designed with your kind of application in mind.

Gold laser rangefinders are NOT a good choice for that kind of application. They have software designed and calibrated specifically for a golf flag and they are set to make the nearest object a priority.
