| I want night vision binoculars. I have a budget of around $600 max. I don't understand why some goggles are listed as binoculars AND goggles both. I want one of these also. |

Hi
For a goggle to qualify as a binocular goggle, it must have two eyepieces and two objectives (front lenses) such as the Bushnell, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-1x20-nv.html Many goggles are what we call bi-ocular - two eyepieces, but only one front lens such as a standard PVS-7, http://www.opticsplanet.net/atn-high-performance-night-vision-goggle-pvs7.html . Goggles, whether binocular or bi-ocular style, though, are usually 1x magnification, since they are designed to be used while moving or doing other tasks.
A true NV binocular is something you hold in your hand and it will also have some magnification, usually 2-5x. Compared to a monocular, it offers the comfort of using two eyes, but will not extend the range or performance of the NV unit. An NV binocular is simply more expensive than an NV monocular because it uses two lens systems, but as far as the intensifier tubes, a binocular uses one system, just like a monocular. If you want a true NV binocular with magnification, you will need to go with something like the ATN Jaguar, http://www.opticsplanet.net/atnnigjagnig.html
In general, NV monoculars are by far the most popular form of NV due to their smaller size and lower price. _________________ ----------------------
