Ok, help me with this one.

Need a scope for long range shooting. It will go on a CZ .204. Would like for it to have S.F. tall knobs, and mil dot or like. 32X or more. Plan to go out west next year and shoot P. Dogs.

Thanks
David

Hi,

Sounds like you're begging for a Barska. Check out their offerings on our web pages.

In lower priced offerings I would recommend the following:

http://www.opticsplanet.net/swift-4-12x40mm-premier-riflescope-677m.html

http://www.opticsplanet.net/bu-5-15x40m-legend.html

http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-trophy-6-18x40mm-matte-finish-riflescope-multi-x-reticle-and-o-ring-736184.html

Medium to high priced offerings:

http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-elite-7-21x40-3200-riflescope.html

http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-6-24x40-elite.html

http://www.opticsplanet.net/nikon-riflescope-monarch-ucc-6-20x44.html

http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vari-x-iii-65-20x50mm-long-range-target-rifle-scope.html

http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vari-x-iii-85-20x50mm-long-range-target-rifle-scope.html

Side focus is nice, but you severely limit your offerings. Too much magnification is useless because of mirage and field of view and user-friendliness. Mildots are of minimum use and are too busy and cover up 3.6 inches at 100 yards. Multiply that by 3 for a 300 yard shot. Each dot covers almost a foot. We all have opinions, but I would not use what you're asking for on any of my dog guns. This is after exploding truckloads of them with a ridiculous variety of firearms and calibers. Buy the best glass you can afford in a more reasonable magnification range. Light transmission is not an issue for dogs, so you can get by with less than you can for a coyote gun. Deal with a front adjustable objective. If you see an offering that sounds too good to be true for the price, it is.

Hi,

I am a product specialist for Optics Planet, and may not badmouth any products we sell.

I am not a paid product specialist and I am not limited to what I have to say. Barska is junk. I can use more words if you like. You deserve better. You bought a really nice rifle, don't insult it. At the very very least I would go with the Bushnell Legend Series. Since yours is a very light recoil caliber, it will probably hold up well. Next up would be the Bushnell 3200 series. Good optics are your connection to the target, you want to be well connected, yes? And of course with more money you can move up to better and better and I will not say any of those other high end choices would not be worth it.

Everything else Steve said I agree with, you don't need the mil-dot, you don't need large objective lens, you can live with and adjust the front adjustable objective and make it all work and work very well and surprise yourself at how well you can shoot when you have a clear picture of Mr Dogg. Clear quality optics are better than excessive features that don't add up to the price, there is a reason for that.

I have had some people offer to let me shoot their rifles and one look through their scopes and I said no thanks, not going to strain my eyes for a free squeeze anymore, just not worth it. Good luck.

Ok, what do you think about this scope, and what does the MC stand for.

ooooohhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Cool

Whatever you wind up getting let us know how it shoots, grouping size at distance. I guy I never met before let me test drive his rifle in .204 Ruger caliber with an old beat up Leopold scope at the range. I had 3 bullets touching each other at 100 yards. That was all I shot was those 3 bullets. That is a fun caliber. He molycoated his barrel. It sure seemed to work for that rifle. Happy Hunting.

Ok, got the Zeiss, just mounted it, and headed to the range. I want to go back and explain that I started with a Swift on the CZ that failed. Traded it back to the dealer where I got the rifle for another one. That scope also was D.O.A. He took it back with a full refund, then gave me a deal on the Zeiss. Just wanted to let you know Steve why I did not get it from Optics Planet. Now before the first Swift failed I could make 2 out of 3 shots touch at 150 yds. This round has knocked my socks off. I will let you know how it goes today.

Hi,

Sorry about your busticated Swift. Can you explain how it failed?

Superb replacement. No comparison. Good stuff sure makes you happy, doesn't it?

Well, the first time out I had a mount problem, thought it was the scope, but was wrong, so glad. Took it out yesterday and tried it again and found out I went overboard getting this scope, it is so clear, crisp, and well made, but you know what, I DON’T CARE. I have never owned a scope like this and being 52 years old I figure it is about time to own one.

Now to answer some questions, it is the 6.5x20 with the S.F. AO. And with the .204 round I think it is the perfect match. Glad now that ya’ll talked me out of the real high powered stuff. When I finished yesterday I was able to touch holes a couple of times at the 250 yd. Line, I could not believe it. Now I am starting to wonder if it is too much scope for the rifle, but there again, I DON’T CARE, lol. I can’t believe it. My socks are not only knocked off, but I think they are up there with the shuttle now. When I turn the elevation up or down it will go back exactly where it was before. The S.F. is like Steve said, is not that important, but it is nice to have.

Now as far as the Swift goes, the first one the reticle would move around with each shot. You could anchor the rifle down and dry fire it and see it move. The second one had no click or resistance in the elevation adjustment. It also had a spot on one of the lens inside the scope. I figure it was a piece that did not get cleaned out when manufactured.

For my old eyes this scope is the ticket, I don’t care if it was built in Germany, or the US. All I know is that it works, and works well.

I really am glad you guys took time to help me with this one. Will post again in the future.

Thanks
David
