My Lomo Multiscope BMH4-BF is all stock, and is fine for general use.
I can easily identify the types of white blood cells on a smear, and
check red cell morphology just fine.
But, at high power the image lacks contrast.
I can see the white cell nucleus but it doesn't come into sharp clear
focus. The granules in the cytoplasm don't stand out.
Surely improvements can be made.
Could it be simply a matter of throwing some $$$ at better objectives?
Or a better condensor?
If so, what should I look for?

I am not from an optic planet, but a multiscope user with various different objectives and homemade components to fit the scope.

A better condenser will definitly help. This one is really an exceptional one. http://www.opticsplanet.net/lomo-up-bo1.html

You can also toy with the condenser to have darkfield which provides better contrast.

The next option would be the apo objectives, they might not be available all from this site, but used ones from ebay or elsewhere can be found. The water immersions one though are here. The X70, 1.23 is a baby.

What is most interesting with this scope is not more what you got when you bought it, but rather what could be latter bought for it, from here and elsewhere.

Thanks, I'll check into that condensor.
I was really hoping that someone from Optics Planet or Lomo would make a recomendation about objectives.

Here is an update.
The main microscope guy emailed me and set up a time to call.
We had a very good telephone conversation, in which he made a number of suggestions.
I have to say that I am impressed with the customer service here.
I bought my Multiscope 3 years ago, and they still treat like I'm their biggest customer.
Anyway, I started with a bottom-to-top cleaning and re-alignment of the illuminator and condensor. Seems that over time and getting bumped around a bit things had gotten a bit out of whack, because that made a big improvement.
I'll try a few other things later and report back.
