I just bought a LOMO Astele 95, and I'm wondering if anyone has successfully mounted a Canon A80 digital camera on one. I'm just not sure what kind of adapter I'll need, and I haven't been able to find much information on it. From what I understand, the A80 has to be mounted to the eypiece of the telescope since it's not an SLR camera. I got the zoom eyepiece with the telescope, but the eyecup doesn't seem to be removeable on it, so I don't really see much of a way to mount an adapter on it. I'm planning on buying a couple of fixed eyepieces anyway, and I'm hoping someone can recommend a good eyepiece and a camera adapter that will work together.

Also, does anyone know what type of adapter I would need to mount a digital Rebel to the scope using the photo adapter that came with it (the LOMO)? My dad owns a Rebel, so I'd like to try it out, too. From what I understand, it would need a T-ring (?), but I have no idea what type.

I really appreciate any suggestions.

Hi

Let's do the easy one first.

To mount the Canon Rebel to the LOMO 95, use the 35mm photo adapter that came with the telescope and add a T-ring for a Canon EOS. The brand of T-ring makes no difference as long as it is a T-ring for the Canon-EOS. With camera attached, the LOMO 95 then becomes a 1200mm focal length camera lens.

Now for the hard one. There are no digital adapters made for the LOMO 95. Forget digiscoping with the zoom eyepiece on this telescope - the eyepiece has poor eye relief and a very narrow field of view. You will be better off with a fixed power eyepiece with good eye relief and wide field of view.

Once you have the eyepiece, check with Scopetronix or similar company for a universal adapter that will fit the OD (outside diameter) of the eyepiece. This may take some trial and error on your part, but it can be done.

Thanks very much for the advice.

Do you know of a good eyepiece in the $50-ish dollar area? I'm really new to this stuff and have absolutely no clue what types/brands/etc are good and which ones to stay away from.

I appreciate the help.
