An 8x32 is always a good compromise between performance and portability - not too big but plenty of performance. I'd look at the excellent [url=http://www.opticsplanet.com/pentax-8x32-dcf-sp.html]Pentax SP 8x32[/url], for instance.

In my opinion, $700 could buy a very good [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/binoculars.html]binoculars[/link]. If i were you, i'll not spend so much money on it. Maybe $200-$300 is enough. I know you need for wildlife watching on the trips, so I suggest you buy a lightweight and [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/binmarine.html]waterproof binoculars[/link]. Such as Eyeskey 8x42 and 10x42, [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-brand.html]Nikon[/link] 10x42, [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-brand.html]Leupold[/link] 8x42. You can compare each other and then choose the most appropriate.

This is a little too vague. You have to say how much weight you want to carry around. There are a few 8x32 models that do not wigh much, and even 8x42.

Birding is pretty much the same as wildlife, as mammals are also seen with them. The guide is here
