Mid range 10x42, advice required

My 1st choice would be the Monarchs, but not by much. In fact, I changed my mind & recommend the 8x42 [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-brand.html]Nikon[/link] Pro Staff 7's as they are fantastic bino's for the $$$ (I paid $139 for mine @ OpticsPlanet & you would think they cost much more; in fairness I got them on sale; originally $189; however they perform as well, or better than other bino's I've looked through costing $350-$400). Perfect (& I mean perfect) for astronomy & birding (@ least in my experience).

I'm looking for a decent 10x42 Bino with good [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com]optical[/link] performance and clear image, after reading onto the internet I managed to narrow it down a little:

[link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-10x42-monarch-binoculars.html]Nikon Monarch 10x42[/link], this one is less expensive but acc. to several reviews it fits in nicely between the others.

Bino will be used for bird and nature watching, not for insects on close range. I realy like a bright, clear and highly contrasted image. Someone who has experience with the [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/pentax-brand.html]Pentax[/link] ?
