Despite the advertising, you will need to be fairly close to the animal, especially in warm weather, to detect a heat signature. Brush and cover, which serve to insulate the animal, will further reduce the effectiveness. In my experience, these things work, but you usually need to be right on top of the animal. Definitely no substitute for good tracking skills.

if you are in timber and medium brush what can you really expect from the heet seeking devices?primarily deer in 60 degree weather...
