Hello,

Those terms are usued interchangeably by Ray-Ban and they all refer to the same tint, smoke green.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else. 8)

What is the best price for Ray-Ban New Wayfarer Sunglasses, 55mm, Black Rubber Frame, Crystal Green Lens 622-5518. I never had green lenses but some pics show the green as not very see thru and i like the black rubber feeling.

thanks,

mike

Hello,

Liz answered this one at the beginning of the post. Ray-Ban G-15 lenses are made from glass. Lenses made from glass are usually heavier than the lenses made out of plastic. Ray-Ban uses a special technology that make glass lenses light weight without diminishing their optical quality. To indicate that their lenses are lighter that most glass lenses in the industry, Ray Ban calls their lenses "XLT", which stands for extra light.

G-15 means green. To quote Ray-Ban exactly they are their trademark neutral green also called the natural vision lens. It offers a 85% light absorption and 100% UV protection.

I hope this helps.

I'll add another question to my previous one. What exactly does G-15 XLT specifies? Is it only the color of the lenses, or is it the material they are made of, too. And thus, when I see G-15 XLT, does it ALWAYS mean the lenses are made of glass, or it may be polycarbonate, too (depending on other specification). I'm not asking only about aviator models, but about all Ray-Ban models as a whole. And what does "G" in G-15 XLT mean? Is it gray or green?

Yes it does, thanks larumd. And I was wondering if Ray-Ban glass lenses have any kind of shatter protection and if they do, is it effective?

That is a good question. Almost all of the Ray Ban Aviator Sunglasses are made with Crystal (glass) lenses.

However the Ray-Ban Junior Sunglasses RJ9506S for Kids is made with polycarbonate lenses for safety reasons.

I hope this helps you out.

I hope someone replies even though the thread is quite old. Can anyone offer me specific Ray-Ban aviator models with polycarbonate lenses, because I'm confused if there are any at all?

I had a chance to call Ray-Ban and they informed me that all of their G-15 crystal (glass) lenses are the XLT technology. Ray-Ban Sunglasses also offer polarized and non-polarized glass options. XLT is glass.

I hope this helps.

I just want to clear something up. Is the G-15-XLT Polarized made of glass or polycarbonate? I have found conflicting things at different seller websites. Thank you.

For the glass or plastic lenses the tint and light transmission will be the exact same.

I hope that helps.

G-15 XLT or Plastic Grey-green lenses

Post by GregFK9 on Wed May 02, 2012 5:05 pm

Hello all,

I wonder about the difference between the G15 xlt (glass) grey-green and the polycarbonat grey-green lenses. Let them pass the same among of light or what is the difference ?

Thanks

Greg

Thanks for the post. We do not sell replacement parts such as lenses for the non-prescription Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Sunglasses RB2140. You would need to contact Ray-Ban for warranty assistance. If you need prescription lenses we can certainly help you.

Please let me know if I can help you further.

Hello,

I had a chance to call Ray-Ban and they informed me that all of their G-15 crystal (glass) lenses are the XLT technology. Ray-Ban Sunglasses also offer polarized and non-polarized glass options. They have been successfully producing this combination for years. Ray-Ban's polarization is not a coating, it's a filter built inside of the lens.

I hope this helps.
