Hi

Use the locking knob, yes, to lock the scope in position as needed. This is normal for an alt-az mount.

I too am Newbie. I'm using Meade RB 70. Problem is withvertical movement when I move scope it doesn't stay in position. Should I be moving vertical by the knob?
Also: how lose should knob be?

Hi

That's pretty hard to determine given that information, but, it is possible that you have a glitch in the computer and/or motor. I would first visit with Celestron in the event that you have a defective telescope. You should be getting some confirmation that the system is aligned. If the computer is defective, Celestron has the diagnosis software to to the troubleshooting. As to getting confirmation on alignment, you can always do a self check by selecting some other bright stars and seeing if the scope can find them for you. Of course, this assumes that you know the names and positions of those other stars, so it may be asking too much if you are new to astronomy. Best of luck

Hello.
I just bought a NEXSTAR 114 and I'm kind of lost. I've read the instructions on how to align it using the control that comes with it, but it never reach the point of saying that the alignment is successful. I don't know how to start using the telescope basically. Can you please tell me what I should be doing?
Thank you.
Rui
