Brunton Eterna 20-60 X 80 mm Angled & Camera

Any small digital point and shoot with a small lens is what you want. We used to say no more than 3x or 4x optical zoom (digital doesn't count) just a few years ago as a way of insuring that we kept lens size small, but many of these newer camera models are squeezing 5x or 6x zoom out of the same size lenses. Anyway, the key is keeping lens size small. The idea of the small lens is to reduce vignetting when placing the camera behind the eye piece. Oftentimes, going with 2x or 3x on the zoom gives the least vignetting, but that's a matter of trial and error to see what works best. Smaller is better for the lens is something of the reverse of what we are taught about camera lenses, but digiscoping is not typical photography.

The Coolpix S3100 should do just fine for you.

I purchase a Brunton Eterna 20-60 X 80mm angled scope & also an Alpen 706 camera adapter for digiscoping. I'm using these with a Vantage Pro Alta+ 263AGH tripod with a pistol grip handle. Now that I have all of the basics, I need a camera to go with it. Any suggestions? I know I need to go with a 4 or 5 x zoom but I don't know if that means a 4x optical, 5x digital camera like the Nikon Coolpix S3100 or what. Help is appreciated.
