For a serious compound microscope, look for a model with both coarse and fine focus, built-in illumination, light control via an iris and condensor and a mechanical stage. A minimum here would be the Celestron Biological Microscope 4050.

Best and economical Microscope

I need the best, (but most economical), microscope for my son who is homeschooled. He is studying biology right now and I have no idea of how to go about choosing eqipment-not to mention we are on a strict budget as well. Therefore, we wouldn't mind having a pre-owned model. I also homeschool my 4 year old and will homeschool my youngest child as well. We need something that is durable, economical, and something that various age levels can benefit from. Thanks P. S. Do your 'scopes' come with everything necessary?
