Hello Paul, you could try the Nikon D3000 digital SLR camera which is 10.2 Megapixel and a reasonable price.

New Camera for Lab microscope

Post by whalonlab on Tue May 24, 2011 1:45 pm

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help. Our lab is looking to upgrade the camera for our scope and we're on a budget of around $200-$300.

Current set up: A Nikon SMZ1000 stereomicroscope with Nikon Coolpix 990 3.34 MP camera which is then connected to a VCR and into an old ~9" TV. This setup is probably about 10 years old.

We're looking to upgrade the camera to ~10 MP and have the ability to view the images over a nicer display (something like an average LCD monitor). Any product or setup suggestions?

From some quick research online I'm thinking maybe a slightly older and used Nikon D70. Since this will only be used on the microscope then I'll just need the body of the camera and then some kind of adapter to connect the scope to the camera. Would that adapter be the Nikon F-TV Tube MXA29011 (seen here:http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-microscope-d-slr-series-f-tv-tube-mxa29011.html)?

Thanks again for any help.

-Paul
