Just wanted to say that this was great advice. I have been using my binoculars in a kayak in windy conditions and haven't had a drop of water on the objectives. The objectives are set well back from the barrel so it would be unlucky to have something damage them.

As you said though, the rainguard is essential!

Hi Jonathan

Don't remeber any offhand, no. By the way, I don't use objective covers in the field - they're more trouble than they are worth, as far as I'm concerned. In forty years of using binos in the field without objective covers, I have yet to scratch or damage an objective. Eyepiece lenses, on the other hand, take much more of a beating and so I use a rainguard, religiously. I consider that accessory to be far more important. Just make sure the rainguard rests loosely over the eyepieces - you want it off with a flick of the thumb when you are in a hurry. I usually attach the rainguard with only one of the straps for this reason.

Hi Joanie,

Thanks for the quick response.

Do you know if any of the Bushnell range in 32mm come with the caps that tether to the tripod mount screw? Perhaps they would be available as a replacement part?

I looked at a number of different binos and was most impressed with the H20 tethered caps.

Closest we can come is the Eagle Optics LC-32, but it tethers to the objective barrel, rather than the tripod socket.

Tethered lens caps for Browning 8x32

I just bought a pair of Browning 8x32 and find the lens caps don't fit well.

Can anyone recommend a tethered lens cap that will work well for this binocular?

I prefer the caps that are tethered to the tripod fitting, the same position that the Bushnell H20's have them, rather than the barrel.
