If you are serious about commercial photography, a minimum would be a digital SLR camera and a good macro lens, 1:2 or 1:1. This won't come cheap. For a "prosumer" camera such as the Canon 20D or Nikon 100D body, expect to pay between $1500-2000. A truly good macro lens will cost as much, but you can get something reasonable for slightly less.
