I'm using the
ATN Viper for paintball....I find that a
monocular is best as it's good to keep one eye free for looking at the ground and at close range stuff while I am moving around and I use the
monocular with both eyes open so I don't get tunnel vision.
I have the
monocular mounted over my left eye, and can bring my weapon up to my right eye for aiming with my red/green dot sight. By keeping both eyes open, you will get a type of 'stereo' vision, which superimposes the
red dot from the sight onto the image through the monocular.
It takes a bit of practice, but with a good IR torch on your gun the results can be awesome.
