Changing the lens will invalidate the warrenty but changing the lens is not harmful in itself. The Ranger uses the same lens family as the NVMT, it's actually a 3X lens with some native digital mag.
Why would you want reduced mag?
It gives a broader field of view for
target/quarry detection, navigation or use behind a scope.
Yukon will probably produce a ranger based digital NVMT pretty soon anway.
