Well did some fooling around. The woods around here eqauls a park nearby that was lit up like a stadium last night but I did do some looking around in the backyard and so forth- results= okay. It's more or less a fun toy. FOV is still a problem but you get what you pay for in the optics world.

The ol' man was an optics giant and worked for the Night Vision Lab but hated gov. "wonks" and started his own business. I remember as a 10 year old messing around with NV equipment that cost 50K then and this sight is better so...

All the best Trevor...

Remember that a night vision device does not allow you to see in complete darkness. The intensifier tubes need to amplify light. Having a narrow field of view in you basement is normal if the only ambient light source is the IR illuminator. When you use it outside you will have some ambient light from the moon or stars, which minimal, will still give you a brighter picture and increase your recognition range.

Thanks for the heads up Trevor.

Just got the unit and went in to the basement with the lights off (no windows). Turned the unit on and the IR light and gave it a minute since I read that Gen1 need a minute or so to warm up or whatever the word is. It seems to work okay and I can identify some of the stuff in the basement. VERY narrow field of view though but tonight I'll give a more realistic look-see in the woods nearby.

Thanks again Trevor...

Yukon makes a great unit and keeps them a good price points. As long as you're realistic on the expectations, you're in good shape. That unit will work well up to 75 yards under good ambient conditions. On a great night, you might even squeeze a little more yardage out of it. It is a great unit to start out with and I'm sure you will have a number of uses for it and find it quite fun as well.

Yukon NVMT 4x50 Multitask Night Vision Monocular 24027

I bought this unit from OP and it gets here tomorrow. I'm not expecting too much for the price and knowing full well that it's a Gen1 unit. Has anybody had any experience with this unit- advice, tips. It was a total shot in the dark (no pun intended) and I went by the OP rating "best" and the reviews listed.

Thoughts on Yukon in general...

Thanks in advance
