Sounds like you might not be adjusting the unit on the objective focus and ocular. Most units have two adjustments and both need to be adjusted correctly for the best quality image. Usually the ocular needs to be adjusted once, and then left alone. The objective will have to be adjusted per the distance you are viewing.

The one I ordered is the bushnell night watch 4x50
the thing is the image us blury unless i move the scope 2 - 4 inches away from my eye which makes the field of view extremely narrow.
Is this normal? or could my scope be diffective?
and by extremely narrow I mean that a tree stump almost completely fills up the field of view from my deck which is probably about 75 feet away.
and if i move it far enough away for the image to become clear after using the adjustment knob/lens then it is hard to see much of anything because of how limited the field of view becomes.

You picked on of the better gen 1 units, but they are really made for viewing under 50 or 75 yards or so with some ambient light. How far? What are you looking at? A raccoon in the trash or a house on fire? Great for camping and backyard use. 100 yards is acceptable viewing still for larger objects. No gen one unit has clear resolution. They are all very grainy with clearer performance in the center of the viewing screen.

I am looking at getting a nightvision monocular its a bushnell 2.5 X 42 with built in dual infared
Does anyone know what I can expect with this? as in the range that i can see stuff and in what light level?
if you have a picture of it's performance that would be really great.

Is it worth the money? It is pretty much at the top of my price range, so is it worth getting this or is it something that is just going to end up being a really expensive "toy"

what im looking for is just something for recreational use nothing special and im not expecting amazing clear as day preformance at 300 yards i know that isnt going to happen with a gen 1 unit.
