Good question. Gen 4 tubes will give you slightly more range, maybe 50 yards or so for recognition. The biggest benefit from Gen 3 to 4 is the resolution at the longer ranges, it will be noticeably better. The trade off is to make a Gen 4, they had to remove one layer from the tube thus reducing the life span by about 2000-30000 hours. It will still have a life of over 8000-10000 hours though. My recommendation would be to go with a Gen 3P. It is the best of the Gen 3's and has a the longest life span. The difference is minimal between the 3P and gen 4, but you save a few hundred dollars.

Thanks the information. I am looking for longer range because of where I live. Ok, lets try this.... What will I gain by going with gen 4 over gen 3 as far as recognition range, light levels(overcast, star light only, ect) clarity of image.

Thanks

Paul

WPT is close to the resolution of a Gen 3. The black and white screen over the traditional green screen make sit easier to see contrast in colors. In that respect, it can be better than some Gen 3 units at the closer ranges, under 200 yards for instance. Gen 3 and 4 units will ultimately give you more range than a WPT unit. if you want better clarity and contrast within 200 yards, I'd go WPT, if you want the range to pass 250-300 yards, go gen 3 or gen 4.

I am trying to find information on the white phosphorus night vision and how it compares to gen 3 or 4. I am looking at buying a ps40 for hunting hogs that are moving into my area. I have a older aires 390 but unless the moon is out or you use some kind of ir light you can not see anything.

Thanks for the help.
