I have just purchased a Bushnell 4x40 roughly 2 weeks ago.

It is great, apart from the fact that the batteries stopped functioning after just one week, by that I do not mean the batteries ran out, but that no matter what I do by inserting brand new brand name CR123 batteries, it wont work, I have to connect via the DC out.

Apart from that malfunction - its great!

Clear view, good range, 7 hour battery life and definately worth buyng a charger and rechargeable batteries.

Light weight, and grat image quality.

One thing I would add if Bushnell are listening - It needs a strap attachment so as not to drop it when holding it by hand...

I use rechargeable [link=]batteries[/link] for my Ranger. But weight is a real issue for me though. I will wait for the Equinox 6x50 which might outperform the Ranger. It seems to be the case spec wise.

The Ranger has the best overall performance, but at a lot more money in a larger, heavier package that eats lots of alkaline batteries, 6 at a time.

We just have the 4x40 model in stock as of now. Both will be very similar, just a decision on what magnification you prefer. I rarely use over 4x with any nightvision.

So you have it stock now. Right? If so, what's your opinion on equinox 6x50 vs 4x40 vs [link=]Yukon[/link] Ranger?

They may be having manufacturing issues. We haven't received any of the Bushnell Eqinox digital units yet. The latest expected date for delivery is the end of September, but we've been waiting a long time for them. Hopefully soon.

Okay, it is September now. Still not available? It seems [link=]Bushnell[/link] is having manufacture problems?

Unfortunately we are still waiting on Bushnell to catch up and get that shipment out to us.

So Steve, is Equinox available now? Or still waiting?

The dimensions of the Yukon Twilight and 4x Bushnell Equinox are substantially smaller than the Yukon Digital Ranger. An inch or so may not seem like a lot, but in your hand the difference is huge. Also, the weight is only about half as much as the Ranger. Regarding dimentions on the Bushnell, they offer both specs. I think they're just rounding off a tenth of an inch.

Yes, the Twilight does have a gain control, which I agree is very important. The Twilight could have a better on/off switch and a more tactile feel on the gain knob, and I would like to see a simple lock or better detent on both the gain control wheel and the battery compartment. Also, I would like some kind of indicator when the IR is on. The one that I took out for a sample did not have the IR light directly centered in the field of view, which is an issue, but all in all, it is light and small, uses only two AA batteries instead of 6, and the performance is excellent. I really like it a lot. Regarding the Eqinox, I don't know when to expect them. We were told March, but that's how new product availability works quite often. In terms of overall picture performance, I find as of today, the Digital Ranger's picture is the best on the market. The new digital units are very exciting and I already find myself waiting for the next generation!

Thanks for the response Steve.

I currently own the Ranger and happy with the performance. As you know, the Ranger is quite bulky and heavy. Hence, looking for a smaller unit with similar performance. The specified dimension of Twilight doesn't appear to be much smaller than the Ranger. Is the spec on your website correct? Also, the Twilight has less magnification 3.5X vs 5X. Equinox has two models (4X and 6X). The dimension of Equinox on Bushnell website is smaller than the spec on your website. Can you clarify?

Equinox has a switchable display (green and B&W) which seems very nice. The green display should help alleviate black eye I get from B&W display. Can you adjust the brightness of Twilight's display like Ranger? I find that the brightness adjustment is essential in practical usage. Because the ambient light will never be constant. For that reason, the brightness adjustment will be one of the criteria for my purchase decision. I hope Equinox has this feature.

When do you think you might get ahold of Equinox?

I saw them at the SHOT show early this year, but that's not a place to test products properly. We have not had them in stock yet, still waiting for delivery. The size is less than half of a Steathview. The maximum range on the Equinox is listed as farther than the Stealthview, but I can not say that that is fact until I test it properly. The trend on the new digital units is smaller, rather than better performance. The new Yukon Twilight is simply amazing, though. Less than half the size of the Digital Ranger, and performance is similar. My new favorite night vision product for the money, and they're in stock. Great product.

Has anyone tried Bushnell Equinox 4x40? It seems like a new digital NV from Bushnell. How is it different from StealthView? Or from Yukon Ranger? Image quality?
