Need help selecting Gen1 NV

Were you looking for a dedicated night vision scope or more of a night vision monocular?

What is a good nightvision rifle scope if you were going to spend between $0-400, $400-1000 or $1000+

I agree with Steve, 4x is plenty for a gen 1 unit and the small size is nice.

I believe this is 5x magnification. Sorry I did not put in the model no. I am surprised about the plastic lens. Is that good or bad? The Night owl has a 2x lens, whereas Both Yukons have 4x lenses. The NVMT is an older design, larger, with a removable lens. Light amplification on all are about the same, but transmission on the 2x will be better. I would opt for a digital unit. My new favorite is the [url=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-twilight-dnv-3-5x42-digital-night-vision-monocular.html]3.5x Yukon Twilight[/url], if you can afford a bit more, and it is not affected by light like traditional NV units. If you need to choose between your choices I like the Spirit because of its smaller size and 4x magnification.

I have narrowed down to 3
1)NightOwl Nexgen II [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]Monocular[/link] 50MM
2)[link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-brand.html]Yukon[/link] 4x50 mm Spirit
3)[link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-brand.html]Yukon[/link] Advanced [link=http://www.OpticsPlanet.Com]Optics[/link] NVMT 4x50mm

I have more inclination towards [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-brand.html]Yukon[/link] Spirit as it uses standard AA cells. However, I read in one customer review that it is not good without IR illuminator as light amplification is minimal. And, I could not find any differences between the 2 [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-brand.html]Yukon[/link] models.
There is no possibility of trying them out myself as I am buying it online. My usage is purely as an aid during camping and night trekking.
Please advise me in this regard. Any other suggestions in the same budget range is much appreciated.
