Some light bullet low recoil loads may work with your .270, but the only way to find out is to try it. A lot of it has to do with how heavy the gun is, and how you shoot. With a firm hold it may be okay, but it's hard to shoot well when you're strangling the stock. You'll just have to try it.

Thanks for the info. I don't want to alter the .243 i have had set for 20 years, its my cant miss gun with 1000's of rounds. I was just looking for a bigger bore in general. How about a light load .270 I have found the .270 seems to have the widest range of shelf Ammo with some low recoil loads at 115 grains. Would this be suitable and still not end up with a eyepiece tatoo?

Too much gun in a couple ways. One, these NV sights are rated up to a .308 maximum, and the eye relief is under two inches! You'll take your eye out with the recoil of a short mag, and it's not rated that high in terms of recoil. 45mm is about 1.7". I can't shoot a short mag with my eye 1.7" away from an optic. You'll need to step down in caliber to use any gen one NV scope.

I am also new to NVRS. I am looking at the Night ranger 2.5x50 and the 3.0x50. Sightmark seems to have better spec's and warranty. I also had a chance to view these units indoor and seemed to have all the features you would expect of a NV Gen.1 scope. I will mount on a Rem 700 .270 wsm for 100yd or less. are there any users of this product who have recommendations or comments about the ease of set up, reliability, or just general use???
