SunglassHut is owned by Luxottica and Luxottica owns Oakley. You will not find fakes at that retailer as well as OpticsPlanet.com.

After trying out the Maui Jim banyans and hookipa against the serengeti driver lens, side by side at high noon in the Hot and bright texas day, in no way shape or form does the maui jim bronze lens hold a candle to the serengeti. Everything thing Maui jim advertises about the bronze lens is absolutly true.... FOR Serengeti! LOL the colors like Green, yellow, Red, just come to life!! They really do POP! lol, the Maui jim bronze lens was dull in comparison... if I had not had the serengeti lens right next to it, I would not have noticed, but the serengeti lens just brought colors to life... lol I'm sold for life, and an Oakley convert!

yeah~$100 money is for sunglass valued at $100. I also buy a rayban sunglass from 2012sunglass.com last week. And I got the sunglass today. By now, all shows good but not sure about the quality in future.

Personally my experience is that if sumthing cost you too high then it must be much much better and will not harm anyhow..Pay for branded quality products.

I was in a store yesterday and just did a side by side comparison of several Maui Jim vs. Ray Ban vs. Serengeti vs. Revo aviator style sunglasses, polarized. I had owned a pair of Raybans that I loved, both for the look and the optical quality, until lost/stolen on vacation.

I wanted to buy the same Ray-Bans, but there was no comparison...optical quality of the Maui Jim's blew away the Ray Bans, Serengetis, Revos, all of them. Did not try the Kaenon's. Aside from vibrancy of the colors and decreased glare, I felt a noticable decrease in eye strain. The glass does weigh more, but probably explains the optical quality as well.

As for safety, when I'm doing something active, I have a separate pair of Smith plastic/plastic sunglasses that I use. Have not had any sunglass injuries in the last 20 years, aside from one in college when playing soccer with metal rimmed glasses on.

Bottom line, if you can deal with the (probably minute) risk of injury from glass lenses, and the extra $100 or so, Maui Jim lens quality can't be beat.

The Jim Maui sunglasses brand has been churning out the most stylish frames ever since the decade of the nineteen eighties. These sunglasses are much coveted by customers of all age groups and of various backgrounds. The clientele for Jim Maui sunglasses ranges from ordinary professionals to celebrities. What is particularly about these sunglasses apart from their elegant appearance and the ability to offer protection from the sun’s rays is the warranty policy which they are accompanied by. All Maui Jim sunglasses come with an authentic Maui Jim hard or semi-hard case, depending on the style.

Thanks for the feedback. The purplish coating is Ray-Ban's non-glare AR coating. Sometimes people don't like the AR coating. You might be able to get used to it.

I just bought a pair of bronze polarized Maui Jim Breakwalls and a pari of Ray Bay Techs with bronze polarized lenses. The Maui Jim lenses are noatbly better due to less reflection noted with the inside surface of the lense (reflections of my own eyes mostly). The Ray Bans have some sort of coating that looks purplish/blue which I would think should help this problem but instead it acts to sort of mirrorize the inner surface and brighten all reflections. Simply holding the two up side by side with an intentional glare from something bright shows a significant difference. MJ does not have a coat on the inside of the lense and the reflection just appears much more muted. Unlike the Ray Bans, I've never notice the reflection while wearing the MJs. I'd bet this only impacts some lighting conditions like sun roof open at 12:00 with direct sun from the top and may go away at other times/conditions.

In the end I'm keeping the Ray Bans due to the size and shape of the lens fitting better with my face. I think I just bought the wrong MJs and never bothered to try them anywhere before buying on line. The MJs are probably a tad more comfortable since they are so light and flexible. This could also be viewed as being flimsy but I haven't owed them long enough to know first hand. From a style standpoint the Ray Bans look much better on me, so I'm going to live with the reflection issue (can't look stupid). If the reflection begins to bother me, I might buy another style of MJs. If I had to do over, that's exactly what I would do. No point in compromising on a new purchase. So much for buying without trying.

It can be hard to find, however I found a model that offers polarized gradient lenses. The gradient lenses are darker at the top and light at the bottom. They are completed with a mirror coating as well. Please look at the Ray-Ban Sunglasses RB3395. The polarized lenses are brown. See what you think.

I've always had Ray Ban glasses because of their clarity and color. I tried to find a brown polarized lense as well and had a lot of trouble. I don't want to darken my view as much as I want to get rid of the haze and pull out the color. I found a pair of Maui Jims MJ-204-26 that I really enjoy. Everyone in my family wants to wear them and they say I see through rose colored glasses. I can't live without them. Hope you find a pair.

From my own personal experience I am a huge fan of polarized polycarbonate lenses just because of the weight savings over glass lenses. I have often had to drive several hours a day for work and heavier sunglasses always started to hurt the bridge of my nose, whereas a pair with light frame and lenses never gave me any discomfort.

I haven't really noticed any significant differnece between the optical quality, and have owned a pair of titanium Maui Jim sunglasses that I loved (until they were stolen, unfortunatley.)

Glass lenses are of better optical quality than polycarbonate lenses. In addition glass is more scratch resistant. Ray Ban sunglassesbecame originally famous for their glass lenses.

But I agree with debbiewaddell. Polycarbonate lenses are shatter resistant and they do not break in small pieces like glass. There is also a difference in weight. Polycarbonate is lighter than glass.

I own a few pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses myself with both poly and glass lenses. I prefer polycarbonate. They are lightweight and safe. Ray Ban polycarbonate lenses are of high quality, so you won't really loose in optical clarity.

Do not buy glass! If you are in an accident of any kind, or trip, the glass can shatter and cut your eye and surrounding area! Been there done that, had to have the skin of my eyelid re- attached.
