You're on the right track with a GOTO and motorized tracking. The Celestron SE is a great choice for those feature. Go for the 6" if you can swing it. Even 1 inch of aperture is significant, here.

Hi, I am looking at getting into astronomy and would like your suggestions on which telescope to go for.

From what I've read the bigger the appature the better. I did buy a cheap scope a while back but found having to try and track objects was a pain (I'm not that patient  ) so I think I'd prefer one with a computer. I'd like to be able to see the planets and nebulars and have a budget of about $1000.

I've been looking at the Celetron NexStar 6 SE Telescope, what are your throughts on this one? Is there much difference between that one and the 5" version?

Many thanks in advance
