Gen 1 Monocular Suggestions... I'm looking at a few

As far as [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monoculars[/link] go, I'm leaning towards the [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-brand.html]Yukon[/link] 3.5 x 42mm Digingal [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nightvision.html]Night Vision[/link]. Decent unit?

Going to make an aluminum flat bar bracket for it, and mount it with the [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/tripods.html]tripod[/link] mount. Going to use some sort of shock absorbant rubber spacer between bracket and [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/monoculars.html]monocular[/link], and a washer / rubber dampner underneath the bracket as well. This should take some of the jostling out of it when fired.

I can't say what [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monocular[/link] will or will not handle reverse recoil. They were not designed for such use. You will have to call the manufacturer, and I'll bet they'll say try it without knowing if it will or won't.

My understindg with the NV scope was that it was the reticle that couldn't hange in there. I figured the overall technology would be fine with a [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/monoculars.html]monocular[/link]... I'd look thorugh it to ID [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/targets.html]target[/link], and then hit external [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/laser-sight.html]laser sight[/link] to approximate point of arrow impact.

So my understanding is wrong? Even a reticle-les NV [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monocular[/link] won't hold up to reverse recoil??? WOuld it hold up to regular recoil on a firearm? If so, then I'm confused because a handheld / trippod mount [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monocular[/link] was not built to handle ANY recoil... it's meant to be walked around with in front of the user's eye.

I don't know of any [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monocular[/link] guaranteed to hold up to reverse recoil, and depending on the severity of your particular crossbow, I would guess they wouldn't for too long. The only unit I knew of for dual recoil was a riflescope specifically designed for spring piston airguns with external adjustments that has been discontinued for years. If you wanted to try a [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monocular[/link] I would use one wity the least amount of magnification to maximize available light transmission. You still have the laser to aim.

So I'm looking for the best Gen 1 [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/spottingscopes.html]monocular[/link] for under $300. [b]It must have a [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/tripods.html]tripod[/link] mount.[/b]
Here are the intended uses.

1. Mounted on cross bow (with daytime scope) in conjunction with [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/laser-sight.html]laser sight[/link] in order to hunt hogs / coyotes in urban areas.
2. Toy when camping / around house, etc

Uses will be about 50 / 50. I wanted to go with an actual [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nightvision.html]night vision scope[/link], but I can't find one that is GUARANTEED to hold up to reverse recoil of a cross bow.

Will have a cross hair scope on bow, and that scope will have two [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/military-store.html]tactical[/link] rails above and to the side. Laser up top (about to post a question on [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/laser-sight.html]laser sight[/link] board), and then I'll have my [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nightvision.html]night vision[/link] attached to a bracket with [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/tripods.html]tripod[/link] mount. Bracket bolted to a scope ring on a quick release base that will go to my rail that's to the left of daytime scope. This way I can be CAREFUL with [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nightvision.html]night vision[/link] and don't have to ahve it on all the time. Laser will be bolted in and permanent up top.

Because it's a cross bow.. range during hunting is not terribly important. With a built in IR illuminator, if I can make out vitals on a hog or coyote at 45 yards AND see my [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/laser-sight.html]laser sight[/link], I'll be happy.

For fun / Toy aspect (another reason I'm going with the brack / quick release idea as opposed to an actual NV Scope) I'd like to be able to snap it off gun and be able to see as much and as far as possible at camp / around the hosue, but I'd sacrifice performance there for clarity within 50 yards.
