Only gen one [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nightvision.html]night vision[/link] units are in your price range, and I think you'll be disappointed in the picture clarity, especially at 200 feet and with 5x. But all is not lost. It sounds like a quality digital unit will give you what you want, and in particular, the [url=http://www.opticsplanet.com/yukon-digital-night-vision-ranger-28041.html]Yukon Digital Ranger[/url]. It's one of my favorite units of any kind. The screen is white with resolution comparable to any gen two [link=http://www.opticsplanet.com/nightvision.html]night vision[/link] unit. It is not suceptible to damage from daylight so you you can use it in any light. The IR light won't reach to 200 feet, but neither will an IR light on a gen one unit. It has a video out port so you can record if you want. I love this product and it sounds like it was built for you. It looks like a binocular, but is in fact a monocular. Again, I really don't think you'll be happy with a gen one unit.

I would like a pair that are in their element at ranges of 30 to 200 feet. The smoothest lifelike quality image is required. I would like 5x because I want to be as close as possible. It is my understanding the 5x may make the images grainy. Even so, getting close is a must. I'd like to keep the cost around $500 or $600. Is there anything out that will fit my purpose?
