Most Helpful Positive Review 5.11 thumbdrive holster
I bought this holster based on hype I've read and seen. I do not know anyone personally who owns one. After I set it up and did a few practice draws, ...

511 Thumb drive holster for Sig Sauer P226 9mm doesn't work

by Neuromancer, from Canada, ON Written on October 13, 2014
This thumb drive unit does not engage the locking mechanism for the newer Sidg Sauer P226 models. The gun goes in the holster but does not engage the lock. This is not a fault of the unit I bought as I tried my gun and other Sigs and another exact same model thumb drive unit at my local gun store. None of the thumb drive units would engage and lock the guns in place. There's another review on this exact unit elsewhere pointing out this exact problem. Apparently it's an issue with newer Sig units that have more square shaped trigger guard. Wish I had done better research before I purchased this. One hopes that 511 Tactical will do the right thing here....
Pros:
  • Solid feel
Cons:
  • Fails to work propery
  • design flaw

5.11 Tactical Thumbdrive Gun Holster

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on July 6, 2013
Paddle belt convenient to take off and off belt. Feels secure in holster and requires pressing of thumb drive to release of pistol. Similar to drawing the Safariland 6304 holster except without the SLS hood, and drawing up straight up. Only negative I found is I have small hands. Would love if they have an option to make the thumb drive longer in length in order to reach it better....

SIG P229 SAS Gen 2 is Too Wide

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, PA Written on April 4, 2013
The SIG P229 SAS Gen 2 has a slightly wider slide than the older models. This holster is usable but it's a tight fit for this particular model and will put holster wear marks on your gun.
Cons: Holster too narrow for this particular model of P229...

Great product.

Great holster if you need retention, but still want a fast draw. Thumb drive becomes second nature quickly and doesn't hold the same risk of your booger hook pulling the trigger upon the draw. Sight loop built into the holster works well and has extra room for larger sights. The only negative found was that if you attempt to draw without hitting the thumb drive your gun "sticks" and needs to be pushed down while engaging the drive in order to draw.
Pros: Easy to use and reliable.
Cons: Will stick if attempt to draw without thumbing release....

Pretty awesome

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on December 16, 2011
Don't get this thinking it will be as natural as your usual draw. It is pretty natural, but if you don't train to purposefully stick your thumb out firmly then you can get into some major trouble. As with any piece of gear, TRAIN before you have to use in a real situation.

Also, don't think that this would be good for concealment. It is not advertised as a concealment holster for a reason. It sticks out quite far, and unless you are wearing a winter coat or something, it will be pretty noticeable.

With training however, this is a pretty amazing holster. Your draw won't be quite as fast as something out of a holster with no active retention, but it will be damned close. The lock holds the gun in pretty firmly, and the holster fits my Glock 19 snugly.

My only real con is that you have to unmount the holster (via unscrewing 3 screws) in order to adjust for different belt sizes. But that's what I get for having different belts. I don't think most people would run into this problem.
Pros: Very fast draw...after training of course
Cons: Having to unscrew the holster from the mount to adjust for different belt sizes...

Great product!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, AZ Written on November 3, 2011
Really cool product. I ended up buying the modular system that allows the holster to be used on a belt then easily transferred to thigh rig or vest. May pick up more items like knives that will also be used on the thigh rig.
Pros: Easy to use, love the modular type system that can be used.
Cons: no real instruction how to put together or what goes with. Had to use YouTube....
