Lousy soles

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on February 21, 2014
In cold weather they are hazardous as the soles become very very slippery. Frankly in cold weather, they are unusable. Although advertised as "warm" they're not.
Pros: Comfortable
Cons: No traction in cold weather, Not very warm...

Love these boots.

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on April 8, 2013
Bought these a couple months ago wore them once before until i went up north for the weekend. In wisconsin we tend to have snow for longer than other states but my place up north still had a foot of snow and loots of water in the woods. Wore these boots out there and i was walking in foot deep snow and water and these boots really held their own. After 6 hours my feet were mostly dry socks had a little water but it wasnt even noticeable unless you touched the socks. These have outperformed my hunting boots so far....

Dont Jump on the Bandwagon

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on March 10, 2012
i live in Canada and when i bought these boots 11 months ago i was extremely excited. Including shipping i spent over $200 and while they arrived in amazing condition, the only things that i have truly enjoyed about these boots for every day use are the zippers. The hidden pocket was occassionally useful, however my feet do not break boots easily and i do not believe i had abused these boots in any way, but the seams around the kick toe had worn within 6 months of use and throughout the winter i was severely disappointed. Up here we tend to experience a month and a half of -30 degrees Celcius weather and colder, and even though it was a 20 minute walk to school and work, there were many times afterwords when i would have freezing toes for up to an hour and a half! And now that it is finally spring and most of the snow is thawed, the broken seams are allowing water into each boot and this has gotten to a point that i carry multiple pairs of socks just to change into whenever i arrive somewhere! I dont know if i just got a bad pair of boots or not, but for the amount of money and the amount of hype online about these boots i am severely disappointed. I will most likely purchase some things from 511 in the future, however i strongly urge most of you from jumping on the bandwagon like i did.
Pros: Side Zipper
Cons: Not water resistant, squeaks and wears out easily...

ATAC Boot

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on April 5, 2011
When I received this boot, I orginally thought due to waterproofing, there would be difficulty polishing the toe. That was not so. The boot is very comfortable especially for long term on your feet. My feet breath really well and the hidden pocket is definitely a plus, for knives.
Pros: Great Fit and versatility
Cons: Nothing yet...

Just good, comfortable boots

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, VA Written on November 22, 2009
I bought these boots because I work construction and wear boots every day. I also ride a motorcycle and need solid footwear for protection. I've been wearing them for about three months now, and am happy with them. I ordered them online, and received them about 3 days later. They came with laces, and setup took about 10 minutes. Once laced and tied, the zipper makes them easy to get on and off. The zipper is covered by a velcro tab when zipped up, which keeps the zipper secured, nice touch. Once I had them set up, I felt comfortable in them almost immediately. I have had to break in boots in the past, and these fit well right from the start. Thus far, they've held up well, aside from some minor scuffs and small cuts around the toe.
I was disappointed to find that they are not waterproof as claimed by the manufacturer, and would have gotten the cheaper 12001 if I had known. The only other problem I have had is that the laces sometimes come untied, but that may be because I wear my jeans over them instead of tucked in.
Altogether a decent pair of boots, especially for the money.
Pros: Zipper, look good, comfortable out of the box
Cons: Not waterproof, scuff easily...

Simply the best

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on July 13, 2008
Im not a LEO or anything, I mainly bought these because of the good brand reputation. I work in retail managment and need a good fitting boot that is comfortable enough to wear on 12 hour shifts of almost contsant moving, yet looks professional. It was also an advantage that they carried them in my large shoe size (15).

The 5.11 Storms fit this perfectly. Under business trousers you wouldnt know their true nature. Unlike every other pair of shoes ive ever worn, they also didnt need any breaking in, with some reservations I wore these to work over 2 12 hour shifts, but my feet were better for it, which isnt something I can say about most boots..

The side zips make the laces largely redundant, though you can do them up for an even tigter fit though in any normal situation you can leave them tied up and rely on the zipper. Not to say the laces are superfluous, they add to the overall professionalism if nothing else.

Working in retail, dealing wth all weather, rain hail or shine (thankfully I dnt have to deal with snow!) and customers spilling liquid good grip is essential, and the 5.11 provide this. I actually tested the grip on a slippery surface (recently sprayed soapy floor) and once planted I couldnt even get the boots to slide...

Overall, even if your not a SAWT guy, LEO or the like these boots are well worth the $$. Comfort, Quality and Looks make this a good all rounder and a good work boot.
Pros: Everything..
Cons: None!...
