I purchased a set of these for less than this site's sale price, but even at $219 they are a great deal. I took mine to the local Gander Mtn. and compared them to the many others there. The Pentax bested everything they had that was under $400. The cheapest pair they had that bested the Pentax was a $500 Steiner, and that wasn't by much at all. In fact, I would not consider the Steiner Merlins to be worth the extra cost over the Pentax.
The Pentax is very sharp throughout the field of view. Focusing is very quick, with no discernable backlash in the dial. Light gathering at dusk is much better that what I would have thought a 36mm objective is capable of. The eyecups have a very solid feel, and stay in place no matter where you set them.
This set of binocs have a very solid feel to them. This is probably why they are a bit heavier than other comparably-priced models. This design is few years old, and you can get a slightly smaller/lighter pair, but at a higher cost. For ...
