Great for star gazing from light polluted towns

Pentax 10x50 PCF WP II Binoculars - I bought these binoculars for hand-held star gazing after reading positive reviews in the Cloudy Nights forums. The Pentax is my first binocular and I am impressed with the quality of optics. The field of view remains sharp almost to the edge. On clear nights I am able to resolve the Pleiades cluster and Orion nebula easily. The Moon looks magnificent and its craters show a lot of details. The binoculars are made in China and ship in a very simple box. They feel solid in your hands - rugged but not too heavy. The accessories included, lens caps, neck strap and case aren't great but they are adequate. It's the quality of optics that matters in binoculars and the quality is excellent.

Also Optics Planet was the only retailer that I could find that had reasonable price and had very fast international shipping. Highly recommended.
Pros: Sharp optics, rugged construction, long eye-relief ...

All I Expected

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on November 21, 2008
About 20 years ago I purchased a pair of Pentax 7x50 which served me very well. I still have them and they work fine, but I wanted longer eye relief, as I now must always wear my eye glasses, and higher magnification to see more clearly the birds around my house. I bought the Pentax 10x50 even though I was concerned that the size might make them too bulky for extended use. I was glad to find that the are comfortable to hold and easy to control for long periods. They bring the birds in crisply and close. The large objective lenses make them great for dawn and dusk observations. Plus the long eye relief makes it possible to use the binoculars easily in conjunction with my eye glasses. I'm very happy with the purchase.
Pros: Sharp optics; light gathering ability; smooth operation; solid comfortable feel; long eye relief; great warranty...

Really sharp optics

I purchased this model a while back simply b/c I wanted a bino w/ the adjustable eye cups since I wanted to wear glasses while using the bino. I've since realized how sharp and clear the optics are. I have a medium to low level Bushnell rifle scope and this Pentax makes the Bushnell view as if it's full of muddy water. W/ the 50mm I can almost see in the dark and w/ a full moon I can. Really great for dusk & dawn spotting and shooting. I'm going to buy a Pentax scope b/c of these bino's....
