Dec 31, 2011 Pros:Light weight, low price Cons: Awkward for sling carry even with legs stowed; fixed mount has binding feel when adjusting point aim from the prone Would recommend: yes
Purchased the Advanced Technology BIP0300 Universal Ftwght Bipod (Black)from Optics Planet in May of 2011. Attached it to the front end of the hand guard on my old 'A2 and began enjoying it right away! This bi-pod made the bench rest more convenient and my shot groups improved markedly! The fixed length of the legs gives plenty of clearance of 10 and 20 rd mags but, a 30 rounder will turn it into a tri-pod while resting on a flat surface. The light weight is not even noticeable on my rifle and I appreciate that, especially when humping it through the mountains during deer season. It's plastic construction is robust enough to easily handle the weight of the AR-15.
The attachment was a little awkward but, that may be because use of the bi-pod is new to me. Also, it is difficult to find a comfortable placement while slung on my shoulder whether the legs are folded in the forward position or rearward. I guess I'll have to carry it in my hands when in the field (Duh!).
It's great to have the option of swivel or fixed mount. I am just not sure which one I prefer. The swivel mount seems the most practical because you can adjust your point of aim easier while prone. The con to the swivel mount is when the bi-pod is folded forward it has a swing arc of approximately 60 degrees (about 30 degrees from either side of barrel axis)... and it WILL swing while jostling with the sling on your shoulder. With bi-pod folded to the rear there is no swinging.
The fixed mount is more stable and there is no swing when legs are folded (forward or aft) but, when the bi-pod is deployed the flexible plastic construction gives it a binding feel while trying to adjust point of aim from the prone position. Lifting the rifle up and placing the bi-pod where I want it seems to do the trick.
With a quick turn of the thumb knobs on the legs the extensions drop right out to 4 1/4" more. And a turn of the knob locks their adjusted height solidly in place.
Overall, I like this bi-pod. The inexpensive price and light weight got me to buy it. In practical application, the bi-pod provided a stable shooting platform from the bench and the prone. I just have to be aware of the binding feel while adjusting point of aim in the prone position.
The Advanced Technology BIP0300 Universal Ftwght Bipod (Black) has been on my rifle for 7 months as of this writing. I have had no trouble with it yet. So far it has performed as advertised.
