I'm 99% happy with this adapter, and would be 100% happy if I had an angled eyepiece. Mine is straight (PF-65ED II) so the eyepiece is lower, and I can't use the quick-screw adapter for my camera. Instead I just use the flat plate, which just means I need a coin to screw or unscrew it from the camera.

While it is an inexpensive way of trying to get the average person into high power telephotography, this provides a very shaky picture. Just touching it to take the picture causes a great deal of blur even at the lowest scope magnification. If you can find one, a digital camera with a remote or cable shutter adapter would be a benefit. I have so far not taken a satisfactory picture with it. I will try a little longer. Maybe practice will help.

As a new digiscoper, I was looking for digital camera adapter to handle a somewhat large Minolta ZX camera with a Kowa 601 spotting scope. The Alpen 706 adapter turned out to be perfect for this. Instead of clamping onto the scope's eyepiece, like most of the (too-)small adapters, it screws into the mounting plate of your tripod, and the spotting scope and camera are mounted on the adapter. Stability and balance are thus very good, and Alpen includes the convenient ability to swing the camera out of the way to use the scope for straight viewing. Once adjusted to the camera, it was quick and easy to set up. I successfully produced digiscoped photos within about an hour. Being somewhat large, it is a little less portable than the clamp-on adapters, which may slightly limit its use in the field. The manual was well-written and even included photographic advice on digiscoping. Much cheaper than dedicated spotting scope adapters, it should even work with most digital SLRs. A real winner!
