I first found out about these glasses from my buddy, who is a USAF F15 pilot. He let me try them out, and I was amazed with the clarity and absence of distortion in the lenses. I don't recommend it, but I have looked straight into the sun with these before and not felt phased. Also, if you do any recreational shooting, they are great for that purpose as well, because if you hate earplugs like I do, these will fit under your ear muffs, because of the bayonet temples. These are bar none, the best sunglasses I have ever owned. I bought a pair of original pilots in black five years ago, and if not for the fact that I lost them, I would probably still be wearing them. I will name off the only thing I don't like about them, and that is that they are heavy in comparison to modern sunglasses. You just don't find them made with glass anymore, but that's a good thing. This means they don't scratch. I have even dropped them on concrete, and not a spec of damage to be seen. The hinges will eventually break in and get very easy to move, but not sloppy. Also, the nose pads are very adjustable with a small pair of needle nose pliers or hemostats. Just be careful not to mar them when doing this. They are dang near bullet proof, but even kevlar has its weaknesses. After four years of use, I had the lenses replaced for prescription ones when my vision started to go south, and even after being taken apart and put back together with new lenses, they still held up. I can also say that the paint never once started to come off, and again, though the hinges broke in and got easier to move(they're really tight when new,) the pins never got sloppy, and the screws never backed out. After my sunglasses going MIA, I went back to the optometrist, who told me that my vision was back to 20/25, and I ordered a new pair of AO's in silver this time. Let me tell you, they are quite shiny. However, I think I will keep them and get a second pair in black once again, for when I need black sunglasses. They're more covert looking. I don't think I will ever buy another brand of eyewear again. I'm an AO customer for life.
