Armasight Orion 5x

by Rubio, from Spain, Madrid Written on September 5, 2014
After reading a lot about this Scope I made up my mind and bought it. I was looking for a good scope for hunting wild boar, but I couldn't afford a Gen2 or 3. I have used it for several weeks now and I am really happy with it. Extremelly easy to zero, I haven't missed a shot since I have it. It comes with the IR810, which is essential during nights with little or no moon. With it you can easily see your target at around 70-80 metres, what I think is amazing for a Gen1 and this price. Having said that, it has several cons too: it's really (really) heavy. If you aim and cannot find your target your arms are going to hurt very quickly. Even if you are in good shape, you won't be able to hold your cross still for more than 10-15 seconds. Although little by little you get used to it, your back is not going to thank you. Besides, the resolution is not outstanding either. When you look at a scenery with no bushes or trees, very homogeneous, you think the scope is not working, that you are not seeing anything, because you can't differentiate objects (for example when I looked at a dry stream full of rocks). On the other hand, if an animal or living being is there, you will see it perfectly, because its eyes will glow like big flashlights in the dark. This way I was able to shoot at a wild boar and a fox that were hidden behind a bush. I am very pleased with it and now I am thinking about buying a NV monocular, so I don't have to hold the rifle with this heavy scope every time I heard...

Worth the Money

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on January 5, 2014
Great product for the money. Sight in was easy, picture at night is more than to be expected for the cost. Although not the greatest on pitch black nights. But its to be expected in my eyes. Minor problem with the IR light which is being addressed now. I would recommened the IR 850 light over the supplied 810 light for further distances. But overall well worth the money.
Pros: Well made, good operation for price
Cons: Weight, my IR light stopped working before i got to use the scope in a hunt. hopefully just a fluke. I wrote to OP about the problem, now waiting on a reply....

Seems to have poor quality control on IR illuminator

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on December 22, 2013
I purchased this on November 6th, and as of yet, I have not gotten the defective IR illuminator issue taken care of. the IR 810 would flicker then go off, I received a new illuminator from the MFG on the 18th of December installed the battery and it won't even turn on. This makes me concerned about the scope itself, will it crap out shortly too?
Pros: Scope seems okay
Cons: IR 810 illuminator issues...

Orion 5 Plus The Spark

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on November 26, 2013
After ordering the Orion 5, I was so impressed that I ordered the Spark. Both exceeded my expectation for a $500 entry level NV scope and monocular. Also, Steven with customer support was very knowledgeable about the product and very professional....thank you!...

Heavy, hard to zero in daylight. When used with IR illuminator lights up well out to about 75 yds., however the IR is illegal to use in Wisconsin.
Pros: Low Priced

Armasight Orian 5X Gen 1 Night Vision Scope

This thing is quite heavy. Hard to zero in daylight and did you ever try to zero a scope at night? Once you get it zero'd it works pretty well with the IR illuminator (which isn't leagle in my state) so I'm limited to distances of 30 to 75 yds on a dim lit night. Optics Planet kind of jerked me around getting it to me because the "Free Cap" was on backorder, so they put the whole thing on backorder. Took 2 weeks to get the scope and I still don't have my "Free Cap". Been waiting on it for a month.
Pros: Price
Cons: Heavy, Hard to zero...

Armasight Orion 5X Arrived DOA

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on October 5, 2013
I didn't even bother to see if the crosshairs could be adjusted. Just shipping it back. If you read reviews on these things they are not tested and are hit and miss. Normally the tube turns on though so this is a real miss.
Pros: Reticle turns on but not much else
Cons: Light enhancement does not even turn on - no green glow. Illuminator also doesn't work....

This is the best Gen 1 night vision scope on the market. You can look at others but you will be disappointed. The price is right on this item.
Pros: Clear visibility at night. Eyepiece is large enugh to encompass your entire eye, making it hard to give away your position.
Cons: The weight for a small person might be overwhelming. ...
