Not as good as I expected

by krayg, from United States, GA Written on September 9, 2014
It wasn't what I expected. The NV aspect of it did work however it felt like I was trying to look through a straw the entire time. When you turn on the IR illuminator the FOV narrowed even more to the point that it was useless for my needs....

It's a Gen 1 but great

by shark creek, from United States, ID Written on July 18, 2014
Purchased for a great price and Opticsplanet shipped it quick. It's a Gen 1 but works great for camping and/or to see what's prowling around the house at night. I'm not sure of the battery life yet, I've only used it a couple of time for a few minutes each. The IR works well when there's not enough ambient light available....
Pros:
  • Price
  • Ease of use
Cons:
  • None

Not a bad monocular

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CO Written on May 10, 2014
The monocular was shipped quickly from optics planet. It feels well made and has a sort of rubberized feel to it. The gen 1+ tube provides great resolution and clarity compared to other gen 1 monocular I have owned. As far as light amplification goes the unit is not as powerful as the surplus Russian gen 1 tubes. That being said with the IR illumination turned on the unit preforms adequately. Not mentioned in the description or visible in the pictures is that the monocular has a 1/4-20 female tripod mount on the bottom which could most likely also be used for mounting an external IR source. For the price you cant go wrong.
Pros: Better resolution than Gen 1 tubes, 1/4-20 tripod mount.
Cons: Slightly less light amplificarion than other Gen 1 tubes...

Retired Trooper who recently purchased the 3x

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WV Written on October 24, 2009
I am a recently retired WV State Trooper and I have used Night Vision in the past for surveilance. (Search warrants etc.) The devices I have used in the past were very expensive. I expected the Night Trek 3x to be of poor quality due to the price. Was I ever wrong! The unit is compact, light weight, and it looks/feels rugged. I tested the unit at approx. midnight. The clarity is superb. I live in a very rural area with no exterior artificial lighting. This Night Vision allowed me to see clearly. (As clear as during the daylight.) The down side to the unit is the magnification. At 70 yards, objects appear to be 70 yards away.(ha-ha.) For the money, exceptional performance thus far.
Pros: price, ease of use.
Cons: magnification...
