When in use, I hate to say this but in some situations your normal eye night vision would rival this device. The IR illuminator does stey on and the only way to turn it off is 1- cover it or 2- unscrew the IR light. Best suited to use in a more urban enviroment to have the best contrast with targets and enviroment. In an urban enviroment with little ambient light, is were this device preforms the best. Needs an illuminator switch! The illuminator IS NOT pure IR it emits red light unaided viewable! I fabricated a cover to hide it but I am still burning power for no reason. The head mount has some stability issues with a "clamp to bar" setup, okay if not moving fast or hard but can shift with activity.
