Good night vision for the price

by Pig killer, from United States, OK Written on April 18, 2015
I ordered this scope based on reviewers and have not been disappointed yet. It has one dark spot when on but does not interfere with use. Based on reviews I did right after ordering this scope get on amazon and ordered a stream light ir light with a streamlight pic mount and pressure switch. The first time I used this setup was a moonless night with full cloud cover so no ambient light. Push the pressure switch on the streamlight and I could see through the scope at least 200 yards easy. I did not try the light that comes with the scope but it looks cheap. One added plus is the scope and streamlight both use cr123 batteries. Ok scope on its own but awesome with the streamlight! Happy hunting!...

Good so far

by Okieman, from United States, OK Written on March 9, 2015
I haven't taken it hunting yet as I just received my upper I am putting it on but playing with it outside with a little ambient light it seems to work great. I did go ahead and purchase a stream light IR light after reading reviews that the included IR light was not great. The green on indicator light is way to bright. Have some 100mph tape handy....
Pros:
  • Good image
Cons:
  • Heavy
Best Used for:
  • hunting

MK390 Paladin Review

by John, from United States, WY Written on January 23, 2015
Well made. Works great and lived up to expectations. The directions for daytime use could have been written with more specifics and made guessing on my part a lot less frustrating. It is similar to the unit I used in Viet Nam. Clarity is good....

by murdock, from United States, NC Written on January 18, 2015
Great scope.just remember when you sight it in with the day use scope cover on the lens and then go to shoot at night you need to refocus from day use to night use. I would buy again. a++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...

Best Gen1 I've seen!!

by Sgt1457, from United States, OK Written on November 23, 2014
I am retired Law Enforcement, and I've had the fortune to use some top equipment. This unit way exceeded my expectations. If you have no moonlight, effective range is 50-75 yards. With even a slight help from the night sky, you shouldn't be unhappy. At dead dark, no moon it zeroed in after 5 shots, mounted on a DPMS SporticaL 223. I removed the scope for some daytime plinking and after remounting later, it stayed precise.
I added a CREE T20 IR 850nm to my setup to extend illumination range and a 100yd shot on any night. I've used $2k scopes that did not preform this good....

Great Gen 1+ sccope

by Sean, from United States, LA Written on September 8, 2014
These are very good quality Gen 1+ scopes. I see folks complaining about it not being able to see very far but you have to remember it's all about amplifying AVAILABLE light. If it is pitch black dark out or you are inside a room with no light guess what you will see through this scope... pitch black.

Couple this with a stronger IR transmitter and or visible light source and it is fine for the price. I put this on top of my 50 Beowulf for night hunting and it lights up great for as far away as I want to take the shot. If I hang an aftermarket IR emitter under the gun I can see pretty good up to about 100 yards but I don't want to shoot that far as the drop is crazy.

Also don't expect to have the same picture looking through this scope as you would a standard 4X scope. This has the looking through a paper towel roll tube thing going on as is correct with this Gen of optics. If you know what you are getting into it is a great answer for folks who want the capability but just don't want to spend a ton.

If you want to mount a night vis scope on a long shot gun, 308 and up I would go with Gen 2 or better. but if your looking for short range 223 stuff or inside 50 yards this is a good way to go....

not worth buying it !

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on June 27, 2013
I received the unit a few days ago. Tested it out in the woods and should say I expected more from it as I read lots of good reviews. To my surprise I could see clear only within 30 feet range in the dark .. what's beyond was hardly seen. the unit has lots of distortions, fish eye at the edges, adds a lot of bulk to my rifle. I'm disappointed with MK390. Gen 1 is a toy for kids. It's not worth buying it. I'd be better off with a flashlight...

Good entry level night vision but don't expect too much

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TX Written on May 13, 2013
I think this is a good product at its price point but if you've used later gens this will probably be very disappointing. I've used it to hunt hogs at night and its fine as long as the range is kept short. If you can afford it, spend more on something better. If you can't, this ain't a bad choice.
Pros: Price
Cons: Limited range and clarity...
