Great Gen 1+ sccope

by Sean, from United States, LA Written on September 8, 2014
These are very good quality Gen 1+ scopes. I see folks complaining about it not being able to see very far but you have to remember it's all about amplifying AVAILABLE light. If it is pitch black dark out or you are inside a room with no light guess what you will see through this scope... pitch black.

Couple this with a stronger IR transmitter and or visible light source and it is fine for the price. I put this on top of my 50 Beowulf for night hunting and it lights up great for as far away as I want to take the shot. If I hang an aftermarket IR emitter under the gun I can see pretty good up to about 100 yards but I don't want to shoot that far as the drop is crazy.

Also don't expect to have the same picture looking through this scope as you would a standard 4X scope. This has the looking through a paper towel roll tube thing going on as is correct with this Gen of optics. If you know what you are getting into it is a great answer for folks who want the capability but just don't want to spend a ton.

If you want to mount a night vis scope on a long shot gun, 308 and up I would go with Gen 2 or better. but if your looking for short range 223 stuff or inside 50 yards this is a good way to go....

not worth buying it !

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on June 27, 2013
I received the unit a few days ago. Tested it out in the woods and should say I expected more from it as I read lots of good reviews. To my surprise I could see clear only within 30 feet range in the dark .. what's beyond was hardly seen. the unit has lots of distortions, fish eye at the edges, adds a lot of bulk to my rifle. I'm disappointed with MK390. Gen 1 is a toy for kids. It's not worth buying it. I'd be better off with a flashlight...

Good entry level night vision but don't expect too much

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TX Written on May 13, 2013
I think this is a good product at its price point but if you've used later gens this will probably be very disappointing. I've used it to hunt hogs at night and its fine as long as the range is kept short. If you can afford it, spend more on something better. If you can't, this ain't a bad choice.
Pros: Price
Cons: Limited range and clarity...

Great product

I really like this product. You can see well through it and the reticle is clear and adjustable.
Note: There is a hidden pocket in the front of the fabric bag that is easy to miss. It contains the wrenches and instruction book.
Pros: can see well
Cons: heavy...

Mediocre

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, VA Written on January 25, 2013
save your money and get something decent. I am a avid predator hunter and a gunsmith. I was looking forward to using the MK390, but found it extremely heavy and bulky. This unit does not maginify 4x, 1x if that. in fact it made things look further away. you must get use to the reticle, you will have to move your head up and down in fine increments to see it. I think i will send it back and stick to my green predator light.
Pros: rugged, well constructed
Cons: Heavy, Not a 4x power, made in china...

Just buy it!

I really like this scope. It is good quality. You Get more than you pay for with this scope. You are not going to get generation clarity at this price. What i got, far exceeded my expectations. I can clearly see out to 400 yards under a full moon. You can clearly see in little light or overcast skies to 100 yards. The IR illuminator helps a lot in low light. I use my scope with a 1 million power spotlight with a red filter... make sure the light is off to the side of you by about 10 yards, so you don't get washout from the light, but using this technique 300 yard identification and shots are very possible. it makes it a really long range set up. Though not needed with in 100 yards.
Pros: Inexpensive, Great Quality,
Cons: Weight, Some times it gets foggy...

First NV Scope

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, MI Written on December 11, 2012
Purchased this scope after flying helicopters for the army. I was use to Gen 2 night vision goggles with IR spot light for illumination. It was very difficult to use at first. Couldn't focus in on anything, initially I was disappointed. However, after learning how to set it up for the field conditions and use the IR illuminator correctly the scope can see out 250 yards with no issue. Positively identifying targets at 200 yards. It's a bit awquard to use at first, However, if you settle down and set up for game to come your way it provides very nice night vision, better than any 500 dollar scope should. I would recommend this for the individual that wants to hunt at night who is on a limited budget. You cant beat the performance for the money. One last comment, if you find it difficult to use, read the instruction manual and things will work themselves out.
Pros: Very ergonomical, Nice looking, good quality

very poorly made

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on October 8, 2012
the turrets are labeled up down left right well each one is opposite. its made completly incorrect. took me 50 bullets to sight it in at 50 yards. illuminator is a joke. it doesnt hold its zero. ive used 29$ BSA scopes that work ten times better than this POS.save up for real night vision. seriously
Pros: its so heavy the gun doesnt kick
Cons: everything...

bought a year ago

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on July 25, 2012
Bought over a year ago. I hunt a 160 scre peanut field. .5 mile by .5 mile. i can see all the way across it with a half moon or better. Id say if a piggy was standing in the middle at the hilltop crest id have no problem hitting him. for the most part with no skyline background id say 100 yards to 200 yards is no problemo for this scope. when i first bought the first few times i took it out, i had trouble seeing 100 yards. but after a year ive learned to focus this baby in and couldnt be happier. plus the transaction with optics planet was flawless
Pros: worth ever penny
Cons: a little heavy...

ATN Aries MK390 Paladin NV

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, MO Written on June 26, 2012
Bought 2 night vision devices and ended up sending one back and keeping this one. It was the better of the two. Was going to attach it to a 308 rifle but the distance in the GEN1 was not that great so attached it to my SBR. Works great for 50 yards.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Viewing distance...
